Just when I thought we couldn't possibly need another picture book about the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree, I see that cute little owl on the cover and can't resist。。。 hoping the library gets this in December :-) Just when I thought we couldn't possibly need another picture book about the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree, I see that cute little owl on the cover and can't resist。。。 hoping the library gets this in December :-) 。。。more
Debbie,
This is the delightful story of Rockefeller, the tiny owl whose story I followed closely during the Christmas season last year。 The author does a wonderful job of letting us view the story through the eyes of the curious little owl。 We experience her wonder about “What is Christmas?” as she views the town’s transformation at the beginning of the season。 We feel her discomfort and confusion as she is forced on an unexpected journey。 And we participate in her discovery that humans are loving, cari This is the delightful story of Rockefeller, the tiny owl whose story I followed closely during the Christmas season last year。 The author does a wonderful job of letting us view the story through the eyes of the curious little owl。 We experience her wonder about “What is Christmas?” as she views the town’s transformation at the beginning of the season。 We feel her discomfort and confusion as she is forced on an unexpected journey。 And we participate in her discovery that humans are loving, caring, and nurturing creatures。 As added bonuses, Ellen Kalish shares the “real story” of the Rockefeller Christmas Tree Owl, along with her own, inspiring biography。The pictures are as precious as the text。 Ramona Kaulitzki captures Rocky’s emotions – wonder, confusion, innocence, shyness。 The expressions on the faces of the human characters portray the love and concern they feel for Rocky。 Each illustrated page tells a little story all by itself。 This lovely picture book is for “kids of all ages” and is sure to become a Christmas classic。 。。。more
Kim,
When I saw this in the news last year, I knew someone would write a children's book about it。 This one is by the lady who runs the Ravensbeard Wildlife Center, Ellen Kalish, who took the owl from the construction worker who found the owl in the Rockefeller tree。 It's a great story。 After reading the book and discussing the "real story" adults can show the kids the videos online about finding the owl in NYC。 Fantastic! Kids will eat this up!
